In Coastal North Carolina we are lucky to have mild fall temperatures, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the best of this beautiful season! With fall festivals, special events, and a good ‘ol Halloween scare, this is one of residents’ favorite times of year. Here are five things you’ll love doing in New Bern, NC this fall!

1) MumFest

Downtown New Bern | Saturday, October 9-10, 2021 | 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

 

Join 100,000 festival goers this October to celebrate the wonderful people, places, and coastal culture that New Bern offers. There will be music, food, crafts, local vendors, and fun for kids at one of the region’s most eagerly anticipated festivals. And we can’t forget — the mum displays are gorgeous!

 

 

2) MumFeast!

Downtown New Bern | Friday, October 15, 2021 | 5-10 p.m. & 

Saturday, October 16, 2021 | 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

 

If dining outdoors is your thing, you’ll love the 2nd annual MumFeast! This weekend you can dine in the streets with your favorite downtown restaurants plus enjoy a food truck rodeo, several dozen street vendors, live music, and the beauty of blooming mums all around. 

 

3) Tours of Tryon Palace

Fall is a wonderful time of year to explore this former governors’ mansion and historic landmark. The 16-acres of blooming fall gardens offer a fantastic way to enjoy the beauty of the season. The Palace also hosts special events all season long — like The Fall Heritage Plant Sale (October 8), Behind the Scenes: Conservation Lab (October 12), Discover Tryon Palace: Life on the Lesser Stairs (October 14), and Discover Tryon Palace: Palace Decor Tours (November 22).

 

4) Nightmare Factory Haunted Attraction

29 Park Lane, Havelock, NC | Fridays & Saturdays in October + Halloween Night | 7 p.m. – Midnight

 

It wouldn’t be fall if it weren’t for the scary good times offered at the Nightmare Factory! Don your scariest costume and prepare yourself for seven frightening attractions including Chainsaw Zombies, the Clown House, and Club Casket. This event is not recommended for children under the age of 13!

 

5) Ghostwalk

Historic Downtown New Bern | October 28-30, 2021 | 6-9:30 p.m.

 

Hear historical (and hysterical) tales of spirits from New Bern’s past and support the New Bern Historical Society at the same time! This year, the event is completely outdoors, and there will be special attractions like an interactive photo booth, bakery goods for sale, and a scary dance performance.
